1. Who are your writers?

We have a team of writers with expertise across a broad range of industries and topics. All of our writers have passed rigorous evaluations for content, tone, and style—less than 1% of applicants meet our standards. Additionally, our writers are trained in SEO best practices.

2. What is a Compose.ly plan/subscription?

Compose.ly is a subscription service that grants customers access to our vetted writers to craft the content they need. We offer two subscription plans: Starter and Professional. The plan you choose should depend on the nature of your content marketing strategy and budget. Below is a breakdown of each plan.

  • Starter: You are an individual purchasing content for yourself or your small business. You will have access to our content management tools and team of top-tier writers. You will have access to one user account and one business / client account, and up to two content revisions per project. This plan costs $99 per month and is billed monthly.
  • Professional: You are a business or agency that creates content for multiple websites or clients. You need multiple user accounts for more than one person. You will be given access to all of Compose.ly’s premium features. These features include:
    • Unlimited user accounts
    • Unlimited businesses / clients
    • Unlimited content revisions
    • A dedicated account manager.

This plan costs $199 per month and is billed monthly.

3. How do I change plans?

Go to “My Account in your dashboard,” click “Plan & Subscription,” and change your plan accordingly.

Payment

4. Will I be automatically charged after the 14-day free trial?

You will be charged after your 14-day free trial.

5. When is my subscription billed?

You will be billed 14 days after your initial sign-up and then every 30 days afterwards.

6. How do I request a refund?

You can reach out to our support team if you require a refund.

7. What happens if I change my plan when I have ongoing projects?

You will still be able to access and manage any open projects without disruption.

Purchasing Content

8. How do I purchase content?

Once you choose a plan, you will have access to the Compose.ly dashboard. When you are ready, simply click “Create Project” and you will have several choices of project types.

9. How much does content cost?

The price varies depending on the type of project you commission and the word count. Our pricing is competitive and ensures that you will get the best writers to craft content for you.

10. What types of content do you offer?

We offer many different types of projects, including: blogs and articles, website pages, press releases, product descriptions, email newsletters, and white papers.

11. What if I want to purchase content that your service does not offer?

Some project types aren’t included in our selection. In that case, we ask you to reach out to our support team and we will do our best to accommodate whatever project type you need.

12. Why do I have to pay for a subscription in addition to purchasing content?

The monthly subscription fee ensures that we can continue to recruit skilled writers to craft exceptional content for you.

13. What word count ranges can I purchase?

Word counts range from 350-500 to 2700-3000 words across most project types. If you require a word count outside of this range, please reach out to our support team and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Writers and Content Revisions

14. Can I choose my writer?

Writers cannot be chosen by clients, but if you are an existing customer, we will use your feedback to match you with the appropriate writer. If you have a favored writer that you would like to be prioritized for your projects, please reach out to our support team and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

15. How are writers assigned?

Writers are assigned according to their areas of expertise and writer reviews. If a writer matches your project category and is one of your favored writers, we will prioritize them for your project.

16. Can I interview my writer beforehand?

At Compose.ly, our content specialists will hand-pick the perfect writer for your project. We know our writers’ strengths and will ensure that you receive excellent content.

17. Can I view samples of a writer’s work?

Writer samples can be viewed upon request.

18. How do I contact my writer?

Writers can be contacted directly through the Compose.ly platform using our in-app messenger.

19. How much content should I be buying?

There is no fixed amount of content you should be buying. No two companies’ needs are the same, but we will accommodate whatever your needs are.

20. What happens after I purchase content?

After you’ve placed an order, a writer will be assigned to your project. Your favored writers will be contacted first to claim the project.

21. How long will it take your writers to craft my content?

Once a writer has claimed a commissioned piece, they have seven calendar days to produce the first draft.

22. How many revisions can I request?

On a Starter Plan, you can request up to two revisions on any piece of content. On a Professional Plan, you can request as many revisions as you require.

23. How long will revisions take, if requested?

Writers are allocated seven calendar days per revision.

24. How do I download the finished project?

When a project is completed, you will receive an email with a link to download your project. You can also access and download the project anytime from your dashboard.

We offer competitive rates for writers that are above those offered by our competitors, and guarantee a constant stream of projects for writers who want consistent work.

2. How do I join Compose.ly?

We are currently only accepting writers on a case-by-case basis.

3. Will I have a writer profile on your website?

Our ‘Meet Our Writers’ section currently includes our highest-rated writers. If your feedback rating is consistently positive, we will invite you to be a featured writer.

4. What type of projects do you offer?

We offer many different types of projects, including blog posts and articles, website pages, press releases, product descriptions, email newsletters, and white papers.

5. Can I specialize in a writing category?

You can choose from 18 industry-based writing categories.

6. How do I change my writing category?

If you want to change your writing category to optimize the projects you receive, please reach out to our support team.

7. What is the word count on Compose.ly projects?

Project assignments and deadlines

8. How are projects assigned?

Projects are assigned to writers based on several criteria, including their specializations, feedback ratings, and claim rates.

9. How do I get more projects?

Both claim rate and client feedback ratings affect how projects are assigned. If you are consistently rated positively by a client or if a client requests to works with you, we will prioritize you as a favored writer for them.

10. How much time do I have to finish a project once I claim?

You have seven calendar days to submit content. A client may ask for content to be expedited, however, you can turn down expedited projects if you cannot complete them on the agreed-upon date.

11. What should I do if I cannot finish a project?

If you are unable to complete a project, please contact our support team immediately as we will need to inform the client and reassign the project.

12. How many revisions can a client request?

On a Starter Plan, clients can request up to two revisions on any piece of content. On a Professional Plan, clients can request as many revisions as they require.

13. How long can revisions take, if requested?

Writers are allocated seven calendar days per revision.

14. What do I do if I need an extension?

If you are unable to meet the submission deadline, please contact your client through the in-app messenger to request an extension. Only clients can extend projects and the length of time varies from 1-5 days past the original due date. If you have trouble communicating with your client, please contact our support team.

15. How do I contact my client?

Clients can be contacted directly through the Compose.ly platform using our in-app messenger.

16. There’s an issue with the project and the client is unresponsive, what should I do?

If you’re having trouble communicating with your client, please reach out to our support team.

17. I received negative feedback from a client, what should I do?

If you receive an email indicating a client gave you negative feedback, you should check out our blog post “8 Essential Tips for Writing an Awesome Blog Post in 2018” to help you craft content that your clients will love. If you feel you were unfairly rated, please reach out to our support team.

Account Restrictions

18. Why did you restrict my account?

Your account could be restricted if you failed to submit content on time. We employ warnings to maintain client satisfaction, which in turn ensures a steady flow of work for our writers. If you accumulate two warnings, your account will be restricted and you won’t be able to claim new projects until the restriction period ends. Accounts are typically restricted for a period of six months.

Yes, please check out our Training & Resources page and our blog post “8 Essential Tips for Writing an Awesome Blog Post in 2018” to help you craft content that your clients will love. Upon registration, new writers will also receive a series of onboarding emails that feature a range of writer-focused tips and the basics of setting up your profile and Paypal so you can get started on new projects.

Getting Paid

20. How do I receive payment?

All writer payments are sent through PayPal. To ensure your payment goes through, please register with an email that is attached to your PayPal account.

21. When do I receive payment?

Your balance is paid twice a month, on the 5th and 20th. Projects completed between the 5th and 19th of the month will be paid on the 20th. Projects completed between the 20th of the previous month and the 4th of the current month will be paid on the 5th.

22. What do I do if my payout is incorrect?

23. How much does Compose.ly collect from each project?

Currently, our rate varies across projects. We are adding more features to our marketplace, and writers will have more control over their individual rate and earnings in the future. Stay tuned for updates.
